Our local roofing supplier will deliver the project materials to your home prior to the installation date. Whenever possible, the materials will be delivered directly to the roof. If there are obstacles, or if for safety reasons, the materials can’t be delivered to the rooftop, the driver will place the materials on the ground, usually in the driveway or off to the side.

We will tarp and protect your home in all of the drop zones, laying tarps over bushes, landscaping, patios, decks and walkways where needed. We will remove and haul away existing roofing materials down to wood sheathing

You can find more information about how we protect your home by visiting our Learning Center.

Inspect wood sheeting for any signs of rot, de-lamination, or excessive warping. Tighten existing if needed. We will replace any defective plywood or plank boards.

Aluminum drip edge will be installed on all the rake and eave edges. The purpose of a drip edge is to help redirect water from the fascia and into the gutters. The gutters then carry this water away. For more information about drip edge visit our Learning Center.

72” of ice & water shield will be installed at eaves, 36” at valleys, and 36” at all chimneys and penetrations. For more information visit our Learning Center.

Synthetic Roof Deck Protection Underlayment will be installed to remaining roof slopes using cap nail fasteners. Roof underlayment is a layer of material that is installed between the roof decking and the shingles. It provides an extra layer of protection from the elements, such as water, wind, and hail. To learn about the difference between synthetic and felt underlayment visit our Learning Center.

We will reinforce all perimeters of the roof edges from high winds with starter shingles at all the eaves & rakes. These shingles have a high-grade adhesive that seals shingles together on the roof to safeguard against wind uplift, shingle blow off, and moisture infiltration. You can click HERE to learn more about the importance of this step.

All shingles are installed using six 1-1/4” galvanized roofing nails per shingle.

A ridge vent designed with external baffles to maximize airflow across the underside of roof sheathing, will be installed. The ridge vent is less than an inch in height, and molded from high-impact copolymer, it also has a built in insect filter. A specially designed shingle called a Hip/Ridge shingle will be installed over the ridge vent.

Proper attic ventilation is critical. To learn more about the importance of ventilation, please visit our learning center to read more.

We will replace the pipe jack flashing & rubber neoprene gaskets for all sewer stacks. For an additional charge we can also install a Lifetime pipe jack.

We’re also going to replace all applicable 750/slant-back vents and bath vents.

To blend everything in with the shingle color we will paint all plumbing & furnace stacks.

All Brick interfaces (including chimney) will be counter flashed with a reglet cut into horizontal mortar joints.

All step flashings will be replaced with new custom bent aluminum flashing with kick-out at all slope to wall interfaces.

Apron metal flashings will be replaced at all headwalls.

All flashings will be caulked/sealed for proper finish.

As shingles are removed, part of the crew moves them to the dumpster. This helps keep the cleanup process running smoothly. It also prevents debris from building up on the tarps during roof work.

Roofing debris can fall into your gutters during repairs or replacements. Our roofers will check your gutters for debris and clean them out as needed. This helps keep your gutters working properly and lowers the risk of roof damage.

Nails often end up on lawns during roof work, which can be dangerous for people and pets. Our roofers will use magnetic tools to find and remove nails from your yard. These tools help us pick up a majority of nails so your yard stays safe for you and your pets.

When your roof replacement or repairs are done, your home exterior and yard should be free of roofing debris. Our roofers will check your yard and roof for any nails or other debris that might have been missed during cleanup. We’ll promptly remove any remaining debris until your yard and home exterior are clear. If your Northern Virginia home needs a new roof or repair, please contact LAB Exteriors today. Our professional roofers can handle your roof replacement or repairs with expert care, including the entire cleanup process.

Like all parts of a home, skylights have lifespans, but there is one instance that may disrupt the tenure of a skylight: roof replacement. We believe you should always get your skylights replaced when getting a roof Installed! The tear-off phase is certainly going to disturb your skylights. Check out this article from “Ask the Carpenter” on Boston.Com and visit the Velux website for more information about the different types of skylights available.

Traditionally, the gasket around vent pipes is one of the main weaknesses of a roof system. The UV rays from the sun crack the rubber, and your roof is compromised, sometimes within 10-15 years. That’s a real problem. Lifetime’s silicone pipe collars differ from traditional pipe collars in both material and design. The product’s ultra-pure silicone pipe flashing prevents the cracking and splitting found in traditional products.
